The International Labour Organisation (ILO) - the organisation that brings together governments, employers and unions has harshly criticized the Rudd Government for the sixth time in its most recent report for allowing the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) to continue to operate.
In its report, the Committee spells out a number of serious problems with the ABCC laws including:
- Restrictions on industrial action
- Excessive penalties and sanctions
- ABCC interference in trade union affairs
- Imprisonment for failing to give information or documents to the ABCC
The ILO report calls on the Government to:
- Justify the continuation of these ABCC laws and
- Report on what measures they are taking to instruct the ABCC to refrain from commencing proceedings or imposing penalties while the Wilcox Review is underway.
